Stephen McPhail has regrettably retired from football but not before he made over 100 appearances for Leeds Utd and over 200 for Cardiff city during which time he made 10 senior international appearances. Stephen began his football career at a very young age with a local club in Rush. He then became involved in the famous Home Farm FC Mini Leagues, about 1989-1991 before signing for what was to be a very successful Home Farm side in 1992 and played until he signed for Leeds United 5 years later. This Team won the SFAI Cups in 1993, 1994 & 1995 and were also runners up in the League on a number of occasions during that period. Among Stephens team mates on that team, were Richard Dunne and Barry Ferguson (Coventry City). In 1996, while playing for Ireland in the European Under 16 Tournament in Austria, both Stephen and Richard Dunne were nominated as the outstanding players of the Tournament.
Stephen recently finished his playing career with Shamrock rovers. We would like to wish Stephen the best of luck in his retirement, one of the finest Irish players.
